Re:Going price for castings? - 2007/01/16 21:22 Hi aegdorf83,
I sell worm castings from time to time.
I use zipper closing bags, and sell 1 quart size for $2.50 each, one gallon size for $10.00.
At least this way people can see what they are getting, and get excited about seeing an occasional live worm in it. I do my best to fish out as many live worms as possible, but having a live worm in the package will show that the product is still good. I encourage people who buy the castings to save the worms they find, and put them in a shady composty spot outside, or start a mini worm farm, but generally, the worms do not survive in potted plants, if plants are allowed to dry out. If one is placing the castings into the ground, or a very large out door planter, they should survive, as my worms originally came from my ground and out door compost piles.
Last spring I bagged up about 25 packages of castings, and kept them sealed and in a dark place, and in September, the worms were still alive when I re-emptied the unsold packages back into storage.
