That same thing works with meat bees. You set it up the same way, you just add a small stick or skewer with a piece of hotdog, or any kind of meat pushed on to the skewer.
Make sure the meat is hanging just above the soapy water. Set the trap out away from where the cooking and eating will be done so the meat bees will have already found the trap before everyone starts eating or cooking. Later on you will find the bowl full of meat bees. The soapy water drowns them good.
I never heard of using it for fruit flies, but you can bet im gonna give it a try. Thanx for the tip!
