Worms - 2008/05/08 02:48 Hi. New guy here. Mord's my name. I just started this worming gig back in March. Been wanting to do it since I read about it back in ot two, but was never situated well enough to get it goin'. So, now I am. I started a garden and it seems to go hand in hand with gardening...nice, clean, natural way to raise some fruits and veggies...a carrot, some worm poop...bliss.

I've been reading these forums (as well as everything I can on the net) and have really enjoyed the butt loads of information you guys have plugged my noodle up with. I've been rattling off worm info left and right like I've got invertebrate Tourettes, to any punk that will listen...and even some punks who won't listen but get on my nerves. It helps 'cause I collect in the wild, (by wild I mean any slab of leaf littered concrete, plastic or pile of leaves I can crawl through) and often I am asked what in the hell I am doing rummaging around in heaps of decaying vegetable matter. So I gotta explain before they call the cops. After about five minutes they leave me alone...

Well I built me a box, it's a basic thing, not like some of the jaloppies you guys have...but it seems to work. I call it Stalag XIII (says it right on the front)...It's a step up from the small buckets I was using when I only had a hundred or so POWs. NOW, I am a fully functioning, prisoner of worm processing plant and have 1043+ inmates working the scrap line for me. They consume while I goose step and scream at them in my best German accent. ACTUNG WORMEN HIFFEN!!! EATTEN ZEE FOODZEN-HOUSEN!! SCHNELL!!! There's been a few mornings where I've woken up to bits of worm jerky crunching under my toes, like some douche bag upchucked a bunch of itty bitty Slim Jims on my kitchen floor, but for the most part, they've been fairly cool. I mean nobody escapes from Stalag XIII! NOOOOOOO-BODY!!! Yes, my numbers may seem meager to some but remember, I hand collected these little dudes at the risk of popping knees, creaking tendons, and a herd of Charlie Horsies. Not to mention they were living amongst some of vicious-iest little bastards this side of Satan's nether regions...by nether regions, I mean those soft parts of his anatomy that don't see much sun...or soap....think crabs from a Thailand hooker but add more teeth and pinchy things!

Wow, look at me digress...I am still at least a paragraph away from my point! So, like I said up there, having read through these here boards, I've had just about every question I've had, answered. Seems being this late to the game the bases have been covered, sometimes more than once. So, a few observations/questions and I'll shut my trap.

1.) I've read people talk about using pond water for the worm tea. Would there be a greater risk of developing nasty, punk oriented bacteria/creatures by doing this...you know, like some pumped up amoeba angry at the world for his height and lack of moves with the ladies, lookin' for some payback on the man?

2.) In the brewing process of said tea, what is the significance of the 24 hour period? If say, you had five to six times the recommended air going into half the recommended water would you still need the time for the floaty thingies (<---Public Education Lingo) to develop?...What is the science behind the process?

3.) At first I mostly did my rounding up of prisoners on hard surfaces covered in leaves, feeling I was more apt to get Red Worms that way. Now, I find out there are lots more than Red Worms that like to hang in the leaves. I know for a fact I have a few Perionyx excavatus (Indian Blue Worms)...'cause just today I picked one out of some debris and like a hippy chewing on a hash biscuit went; "whoa, look at the pretty colors!" ...it wasn't until tonight that I realized he wasn't dressed to disco. Pretty though. Hopefully, I have enough of the good stuff (Reds) that they'll start humpin' like it's 19999...yeah, I threw in an extra 9 'cause I really want them rubbin' nubbies.

4.) The other day I was mowing the lawn and I saw this worm trying to find some shade...so I picked him up and tossed him into a part of the yard where he wouldn't fry up like a piece of popcorn chicken. When I say toss, I mean like barely moved him...like there might of been .003 seconds of hang time involved, and maybe two inches between him and Terra Worma. Welp he landed a few degrees starboard of where I wanted so I went to move him again and he split in half! I was like what the hell'd I do?! He got all herky jerky on me and wailed his self into twins. Come to find out, this is conducent to African Nightcrawlers...I just found that out tonight, that they like to do that. Weird...yet strangely arousing...Funny thing is I am no where's near Africa.

5.) 3 inch long, mauve colored centipedes will make me scream like a little girl.

6.) So will an oddly colored red spider that looks like one of it's parents may have been a lobster...they can also make your undies wet.

7.)"OHHH look at that big fat juicy one!" never sounds good...no matter who is around...ok, well, maybe when you are alone.

So yeah...nice to meet you all.

Mord.
