Re:bedding information - 2008/05/10 18:25 lanbro, I'd mix it all to keep it aerated and get your herd working all through your bins. If you're starting with fresh stuff, let it sit after mixing to make sure it doesn't heat up before adding your worms - give it a week, maybe.
I think 6" is a good start - whenever I rebuild I go 6-8" deep, very loose, to start.
My EF are much shorter than 5-6", and skinny relative to say, night crawlers, but they're way healthy.
A pound of worms in an 18g bin is gonna take some time to get established. With your bedding mix, I'd be careful not to overfeed.
