Wow! 88 views and no replies! I'll give this one a try.
The worms tend to get stressed going through the mail and settling into a new environment. The older ones are the most susceptible to this. When mine arrived, strands of fabric from the bags had wrapped around some of them, causing bloating and narrowing along their bodies. I had a few dead ones for several days after that. But most of the worms were thriving under the surface. I wouldn't worry about a few dead ones in your first week or so.
