Is my bin too dry?? - 2008/06/26 06:21
Hi,
I have 4 bins of worms, all without holes, 2 10 gallon reg. style and this 10 gallon one that's the old flatter style with lots of surface area. I've had these worms the longest and have harvested vc once, but after I did I moved them from a false bottom 18 gallon bin to this one.
Ever since I did so, (3 weeks now), if I leave the lid closed, condensate forms quickly and almost ALL the worms are on the sides and top of the lid. (tried to post a pic-but no luck)
They never actually leave the bin, but it's a pain to get the little guys off the lid and back to the bin. If I leave the lid propped open a bit, all is fine. They've been eating just fine and seem healthy, but I wonder why they 're doing this.
Do you think my bin is too dry? It seems moist, but def. not soggy. I have a layer of cardboard on top of the bedding (shredded paper, vc and shredded cardboard) and dry paper on top of that to absorb the condensate.
Do your worms ever do this?
Do you think I should add holes to get rid of the condensate or spritz the bedding with water? Or something else?
(They're all indoors, bins are about 80 degrees)
