Worm Digest Writer’s Guidelines

August 19, 2006

Worm Digest, first published in summer 1993, is a quarterly magazine that aims to offer readers “knowledge regarding anything to do with earthworms.” Worm Digest is a non-profit organization that displays no favoritism or political or business affiliation and we are in a transition process to take the original magazine to another level.

1. We request writers to send an email query letter to Editor at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it to first contact us with a story idea.

2. Stories should be written in MS Word and submitted on deadline with an approximate length of 1200-1500 words or more.

3. Stories should be written in a journalistic style (i.e. the AP style) so that people can easily understand the content.

4. High resolution digital photos that are ready for print are highly recommended.

5. So far at this moment, Worm Digest will not pay for articles published on the magazine.

6. Worm Digest reserves the right to edit all submissions from contributors.

Departments

We are looking for stories that are related to vermicomposting, earthworm-related environmental and educational issues, business news and research findings.

  • Features: 1500-2500 words. We expect stories with depth, quality and interest to our general readers.

  • Research: 1200-1500 words. Tell the general audience the latest scientific findings in vermicomposting or vermicology. Contributors should bear in mind to always translate the jargon to our readers.

  • Business: 800-1000 words. A brief profile of the latest products in the vermicomposting industry. The business department aims to provide services to our readers with full knowledge about products in the market. Please note that Worm Digest does not endorse products printed in the magazine.

  • Education: 1200-1500 words. We look for stories that focus on regional or national trends in vermicomposting or vermicology education.

  • Reviews: 200-700 words. We publish reviews of books, videos and other media productions.

  • Earthworm & Environment: 1200-1500 words. We expect stories with a connection between the environment and earthworm not only in the United States, but also around the world.

  • We also accept stories that do not fit into any of the categories but provide an interesting angle to our readers. Prior to submission, please contact the editor for story ideas.
